Supporting Your Patients’ Whitening Needs

Ask any dental professional and they can attest that teeth whitening continues to be one of the most requested treatments from patients and I understand why. If you look your best, you feel your best and having a bright smile helps make patients really value their healthy teeth as well as providing self-confidence to any setting. As dental professionals, it is important that we listen to our patients and help them leave the chair feeling more confident in their smile.

However, we must acknowledge the amount of chair time required of some professional whitening treatments. From making custom impressions to working with a lamp, my team and patients are both on the hunt for ways to make whitening dental treatments more efficient. It is with this in mind that I am excited to start offering Philips Sonicare Teeth Whitening Kits to my patients.

One of my favorite things about Philips is they consistently develop new products in partnership with dentists and thoroughly trial them to verify efficacy. Philips Sonicare Teeth Whitening Kits are no different. This unique offering is a grab-and-go solution that requires zero chair time, while still offering patients semi-customization with trays that they can fit to their mouth at home. Not only is it efficient, but it delivers results with less mess and maximum comfort.

There are two formulas available, Advanced and Caring. Both solutions feature the power of two, Potassium Nitrate and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate. Where they differ is the amount of hydrogen peroxide present, with the Advanced formula containing 9.5% and the Caring formula containing 6%, so we can match patients with the correct option given how much tooth sensitivity they historically experience.

Being very upfront about the sensitivity patients may experience after treatment is very important to me when making whitening recommendations. This is personal to me since my wife has some of the most sensitive teeth I have encountered in my career. I like to use her as my “canary in a coal mine” when I receive new whitening treatments for consideration. For folks who experience sensitivity like this, I can tell you she experienced very mild sensitivity on day one of treatment and then no sensitivity for the remaining eight days. A great win in my household! It also allows me to tell my patients with confidence that their experience will be similar to hers.

There is no sign that patient appetite for whitening is going to decrease, so I encourage all dental professionals to continue building out what their practice can offer their patients. I think Philips Sonicare Teeth Whitening Kits fill an important gap in the whitening market and look forward to seeing the impact they have on my patients’ smiles and their overall confidence.
